  • Defense Finance & Accounting Service

Challenge

The Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS) mission is to direct, approve, and perform finance and accounting activities for the Department of Defense (DoD) with the vision of transforming with the Warfighter to remain the financial partner for the DoD.

Solution

In support of the mission, DFAS has developed a Leadership Development Program and selected Dale Carnegie Training to conduct leadership training for team leaders, first level supervisors and second level managers and supervisors.

Results

DFAS supervisors and managers were provided  the opportunity to participate in leadership programs, which were aligned with the DoD Leadership Development Framework, Continuum, and Competencies, providing  DFAS employees the tools they needed  to ensure today’s workforce can truly become Tomorrow’s Leaders.

  • Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy

Challenge

The Chief Operating Officer’s Office (COO) within the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Policy sought internal customer service training for 30 – 50 support staff.

Solution

Internal Customer Service training for action officers, deputy assistant secretaries, and secretaries to better serve internal customers and impact external customers.  COO policy leaders participated in Analyze Problems and Make Decisions and Coach for Performance Improvement to facilitate employee decision making when policy leaders are out of the office. Policy Management and Operations (PMO) team members also strengthened leadership and communications skills, through Dale Carnegie’s Communicate with Different Personality Styles.

Results

OUSDP enhanced the ability to serve customers and empowered employees to achieve the primary mission of consistently providing responsive, forward-thinking, and insightful policy advice and support to the Secretary of Defense, and the Department of Defense, in alignment with national security objectives.

  • U.S. Patent & Trademark Office

Challenge

To complement USPTO’s enterprise-wide, strategic approach to leadership development, USPTO face to face and live online Leadership Development Programs utilize the Dale Carnegie configurable Competency Based Development System (CBDS) process.

Solution

To meet tight work schedule demands, USPTO requires shorter sessions so that those who are teleworking have the opportunity to participate. Dale Carnegie Live Online and Live In-Person sessions offer training directly related to the needed subjects and the employees’ difficult schedules.    Leadership and workforce development sessions are geared to Supervisory Patent Examiners, Other GS-15 supervisors, SES members, and Mid-Level leaders, aspiring leaders, and non-supervisors in support of identified needs.

Results

USPTO has enhanced the ability to maintain their employee engagement scores by offering the workforce convenient, live online training sessions that are relevant to their needs.  This enhances the agency’s ability to achieve the primary mission of their human capital plan – to continually develop and maintain a large cadre of bench strength for leadership and management positions, and to help prepare non-leaders for leadership positions
